A fighter on final approach passes the first new Intrument Landing System (ILS) produced and installed by Northrop Corporation's Wilcox Electric, Inc. subsidiary in a program projected to save U.S. Air Force $30 millions in operational costs at 123 bases throughout the world. To dqte, Northrop-Wilcox has installed new solid-state ILS systems at 11 bases in the U.S. The first system to be used in Europe is scheduled to be installed by the U.S. Air Force at the Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England. Others are planned for Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Greenland and the Azores (3946-10).
